Like many, I've been trying to figure out a way that I can help people currently going through the events taking place in Minnesota and similar events in other states.Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti were just trying to help their neighbors. They were standing up for their community. They could be your friend, mother, sister, spouse, partner, brother, father, son, daughter, any one of us, or anyone in your community just trying to stand up for the right thing.Although I can't be on the ground there, I thought one way to contribute was to highlight organizations that are on the ground providing resources and support. As I've scrolled through social networks and viewed many posts and reels, I realized there are a lot of links and sites shared, but they disappear sometimes within 24 hrs or are hard to keep track of and share. In trying to help in one small way, I created this site to aggregate time-sensitive mutual aid updates so people can donate, volunteer, and share support where it’s needed most. I will also post shared information on this Instagram account - CommonGround AidJust a few of the faces and families listed below that need help.
• Donate if you’re able
• Share links with your networks
• Volunteer when opportunities are listed
• Participate in peaceful protest, local/national strikes, buying local
• Please check dates — needs can change quickly

Mutual Aid Worker - Support Kirstie's Fight Against Breast CancerI added this here to the top since Kirstie who you may know as BeyondBeurreBlanc on Instagram because she has done so much for helping the people of Minnesota during the ICE crisis and now needs some help of her own. Please Read.Post from Kirstie's friends -
Kirstie's Work Ethic and Current Need Anyone who knows Kirstie knows that she works tirelessly. She works over 60 hours a week across both her food writing and her day job. On top of everything else, this loss of income is the last thing Kirstie needs.Originally, Kirstie was seeking limited support to help cover her medical bills and was planning to work through chemo. She shut this fundraiser down when she reached that goal. Now, it’s clear she needs more financial support. Kirstie’s friends are seeking an additional $10,000 to cover Kirstie’s partial expenses for 3 months of treatment which includes her mortgage and utilities, animal care, and health insurance. If we reach this goal, we’ll seek 2 more months of partial financial support. Her Dedication to Others Kirstie is a mutual aid worker who worked tirelessly to raise $100,000 for direct rent payments for families impacted by [the crisis], even though she was still recovering from a double mastectomy. She was posting GoFundMe links to direct rent requests immediately after learning this news about her chemo schedule, while waiting for a nurse to schedule her first chemo. She wanted to wait until after February 1st for us to update you, so that she could help pay rent for as many people as possible.Kirstie is always there for her neighbors. It’s time for us to be there for her.

“I’m Not Leaving My House:” How ICE’s Actions Are Chilling Everyday Life — and Hurting Community SpacesOur mission at CAA is about compassion — for people and for animals. In the Twin Cities ICE’s actions have made neighbors afraid to leave home. That fear isn’t abstract. It’s emptying events, straining mutual aid, and hurting local businesses — including vegan and vegan‑friendly spots that are cornerstones of our community.ICE’s Impact on Our Volunteers and Donors
While CAA continues to host events as safe gathering spaces, we’ve heard from several volunteers, donors, and event participants who don’t feel comfortable leaving their homes. This site has many links to food access resources in Minneapolis.

Parents are afraid to go to work. Kids are missing school. Families are being separated with little warning and almost no resources to fall back on.On February 1st, we’re hosting a food and clothing donation drive at Hola to provide immediate essentials: warm clothes, groceries, and daily necessities. But so many people have asked how they can help financially, too. So we’ve created this fund to meet the urgent needs that donations alone can’t cover.

Urgent Aid for Family Facing ICE TraumaFrom GoFundMe Page:
As of Feb 7 - $3300 to reach goal.Hello everyone,I am a teacher in Minnesota, writing with a heavy heart. Over the past several weeks, my school community has been deeply impacted by increased ICE activity. Our school has made national news multiple times as several of our families have been taken, leaving children and loved ones behind. The fear and trauma have been overwhelming.I am reaching out today to ask for help for one family in particular. A father and husband was taken, leaving behind a mother and children. As you can imagine, their lives were instantly turned upside down. Due to fear of further enforcement actions, the family is currently afraid to leave their home, making it impossible to work or provide for basic necessities. At this time, they urgently need assistance with rent and utilities to remain housed and safe. As well as lawyer fees to bring their father home. Any support you are able to provide—no matter how small—would make a meaningful difference during this incredibly difficult moment.Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any compassion you are able to extend. Your support means more than words can express. With gratitude,
A Minnesota Educator

Critical Rent Assistance for Central Neighborhood FamiliesFrom GoFundMe Page:
As of Friday, Feb 6 - Achieved Goal!"While ICE wants to disappear us, you are finding us."
-Letter from a Central Neighborhood resident sheltering in place
(translated from Spanish)As ICE continues to move with deadly force through Minneapolis, we are facing human catastrophe at mass scale. Immigrant households continue to shelter in place, terrified, yet making the bold and courageous choice to do so. We continue to receive an ever-growing number of requests for groceries from families running out of food, diapers and baby formula, accompanied transportation to and from work and final college exams, safe and trusted accompaniment for children to and from school, and now critical rent support.Hundreds of immigrant families in our neighborhood are unable to safely leave their homes, afraid to step outside, terrified by the horrific actions of ICE in our city. So many families are now scrambling as lead income earners have been detained, others have employers who’ve let them go for fear that they too will be targeted, and others still with jobs they so desperately want to maintain need accompanied transportation to even try to get safely to and from work. With families pulled apart, scared, and without income - critical rent support is needed to stay in their homes.

Urgent: Food and Housing Aid for Immigrant NeighborsFrom GoFundMe Page:
As of Sunday, Feb 1 - $8900 to reach goal.We are a group of community members who work closely with adolescent immigrants and families experiencing firsthand the effects of our current administration’s immigration policies and actions. With the recent escalation of intimidation and violence against immigrants in Minnesota, the immediate, urgent food and housing support needs of many people in our community has skyrocketed. In our work with immigrant families, both documented and undocumented, we are seeing a growing trend: many people are scared to leave their houses to go to work or buy groceries. The inability to access either or both of these things safely is leaving many families in a place of food and housing instability, with no current end in sight.100% of the funds we are able to collect will be used to purchase groceries for the families that we work directly with, or to support their housing costs. Any amount truly makes a real difference in the life of a neighbor, so thank you for your generosity.

Support a Family Facing ICE Fears
From GoFundMe Page:
Feb 6 - $1700 short of goal.Watching what ICE has been doing to the families I work with is breaking my heart. Kids as young as 6 are openly explaining during our group time how scared they are to leave their homes. One little girl told me they need to keep their lights off so the bad guys don't take them away. These kids are not criminals; I highly doubt their parents are either. The parents of one family I work with are too scared to go to work and asked if I knew about rent assistance so they could stay in their apartment. Our family support worker sadly told me that most of these resources are tapped out. I know I have people around me who have big hearts and a little money to share.

Elena and family return to Ukraine
From GoFundMe Page:
Feb 6 - still $3900 short of goal.
Elena Plashchova is my friend, and her story is one of courage and heartbreak. She came to America from Ukraine a year and a half ago on a work visa, determined to build a better life for her family.Elena worked day and night at a bakery, saving enough to bring her mother and two young daughters, ages 3 and 7, to join her. Our families met at the swimming pool in our building, and my granddaughter quickly became close with Elena’s girls, teaching each other English and Ukrainian as they played together every day.One afternoon, I came home to find Elena in tears. She hugged me tightly and told me that immigration had taken her mother and daughters. She was devastated, crying uncontrollably as I tried to comfort her.Later, she learned that her family had arrived in Amsterdam and would be traveling back to Ukraine—a place that is now dangerous and uncertain, especially for women and children.Elena is facing deportation herself and must leave America by February 24, 2026. She is afraid, alone, and worried for her daughters, who are returning to a country in ruins. She will be divorcing her abusive husband and starting over with nothing.

Help Jenni's Family Stay Safe and Secure
From GoFundMe Page:
Feb 6 - $500 short of goal.
Hello, my name is Jenni. My family and I are currently battling with everything that’s going on with ICE. My husband and father-in-law have not been able to work due to this. They were the ones who always took care of the house while I had the opportunity to stay at home and raise my kids. With ICE being everywhere, especially at all the job sites for construction work, they became afraid. They both decided to stay home instead of putting their lives at risk, especially with the way that ICE has been treating everyone lately. We do not want to be their next victims. We ended up agreeing that it was now my turn to support my family, so I decided to get a full-time job. Unfortunately, my paychecks aren’t enough to cover everything that needs to be taken care of since I’m the only one working. Our rent is way too much, and the utilities and food prices have gone up. I just want to make sure my babies have everything they need. I have a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old, and an infant. I just can’t catch up or even catch a break. I’m also a breastfeeding mama, and with all this on my shoulders, I got my baby sick due to all this stress and being an emotional wreck. But I can’t stay home because if I do, who’s going to pay the bills? I don’t get PTO, unfortunately, since I just started working.

I've been watching for ways that we can help pets too. When families are struggling to pay rent, feed themselves, and can't leave the house this also means its hard to get what they need for their pets. Urban Tails in Minneapolis has already been collecting a lot of donations and we can help with more.Urban Tails Pet Food & Supply Drive
Our goal is to make sure no one is forced to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pets.To help meet this need, we’re leaning into our partnerships with the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center and our local mutual aid networks. We are collecting donations of essential pet supplies.Accepted items include:Unopened, unexpired bags of dry pet food (dog & cat)Canned pet food (especially for cats, but dog too!)Bags of litter (unopened preferred)Gently used Leashes/collars/harnesses in good condition (if it feels too worn or gross, it’s probably not suitable to donate)

Support Childcare Educators in Crisis in North Minneapolis
As of Sunday, Feb 1 - Donations PausedOrganizer: Michelle MontoyaStory: "I am a parent of this local, licensed childcare program and a neighborhood resident (North Minneapolis). I have known the owner for over five years; we met while studying for our Associate’s degrees in Early Childhood Education at Minneapolis College (MCTC).This childcare program has been my backbone to work full time and also to study, as it has been for other families who depend on the care. The teachers provide a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment for young children every day.Due to unexpected and distressing situations in the city with ICE, several educators and their families are facing hardships and fear of going out.Funds raised will help cover essential needs such as groceries and cost of living. A portion of the funds will also support increased transportation costs, as some staff have temporarily shifted from public transportation to Uber or Lyft to feel safer commuting through the city with their young children.Thank you for your compassion and support. Please help our family due to the effects of ICE
Feb 6 - $400 short of goal.
We are reaching out during a very difficult time of our lives. In the past couple of years, I have experienced unimaginable loss—my mother passed away, followed closely by my son. The grief was overwhelming, and soon after, I was told I needed to move out of my rental home. Just as my daughter and I found a new place to live, my beloved cat, who had been my last source of comfort, also passed away.Since then, my daughter and I have been struggling to get back on our feet. The ongoing situation with ICE and safety concerns in our community have made it nearly impossible for me to leave the house. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, and the fear and anxiety have kept me from working. I rely on the kindness of families in our community to help with school drop-offs and donated food. Every day feels like a challenge, and I worry constantly about how I will pay rent and keep the lights on for my daughter.I am asking for any help or donations to support us during this incredibly hard time. Your generosity will help us cover rent, utilities, groceries, and other basic needs while we work to heal and regain stability. Times like this have shown me how much it matters to have a supportive, kind-hearted community, and I am deeply grateful for any support you can offer.

Support for 2 single mothers affected by ICE
Feb 6 - $2700 short of goal.
Hello to all the kind hearted people in this world,
My name is Cassie, and I am creating this gofund me for two sister's , and their 4 children (including two newborns) who have been incredibly affected by ICE's presence in our city. This fundraiser's goal is to help them with survival needs until they are able to return to work safely. They are in dire need of assistance as they are already behind on rent due to them not being safe to go to work, and they are extremely scared of ending up in a shelter with their children, as ICE has successfully entered shelters already in other states.I ask that you hear their message, share it and please donate whatever you are able to. If you can't donate SHARING SERIOUSLY HELPS!!! We as Minnesotans have done a phenomenal job of showing up for our immigrant communities, so lets continue to do the same for these mothers and their babies who only ask for a safe and peaceful life. They wrote a message below that I have translated to english (as well as included the original version in spanish)Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!

Help Northwest Suburbs Families in Crisis
Feb 6 $10,300 short of goal.
Hello, my name is Edali Martinez, and I am a licensed social worker located in the Northwest Suburbs. Our area has very limited access to mutual aid, yet many families here are being deeply affected by ongoing ICE raids.Families in our community are hurting. Parents are being forced to make impossible choices between putting food on the table, paying rent, or keeping the lights on. The need for rent and utility assistance is overwhelming, and many individuals are unable to work, leaving them with little to no income to cover life’s most basic necessities. We are doing everything we can to support these families during this incredibly difficult time, but we cannot continue this work without your help.Every donation directly supports families by helping cover groceries, rent, and essential utilities, providing stability and dignity when they need it most. As long as we have the funds, we will continue showing up for our community. But we can’t do it alone. Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser. Your compassion and generosity truly change lives. ❤️

"Hello all- thank you for anyone who has donated to any mutual aid request, in truth you are keeping people ALIVE.I was finally able to connect with a few of my latino neighbors. It has been difficult to connect with them as they are completely trapped inside. I am in contact with 4 separate households all in need of rent support. I am supplying groceries for them but I need your help. They have not been accessing mutual aid yet in any way, partly because they can’t leave and partly because of a language barrier. The goal is 2500$. Please Venmo me any amount you have to share, and I will divide between the homes. These are my literal neighbors. I shouldn’t have to defend or explain their humanity for you to understand the urgency but these are sweet loving hard working loyal community members that I have the absolute joy of living next to. Please help them."Venmo: ejstorkamp

Help me protect my daughters during this time of crisis. -
Feb 6 - $1000 short of goal.Note to the community from Claudia Hernandez - I never imagined I would have to write something like this. I write today with tears in my eyes and fear in my heart. The situation in Minneapolis has turned our lives upside down, and because of these circumstances, my beauty salon on Lake Street has been forced to close. That salon was everything to us. It was how I put food on the table, paid rent, and cared for my children. (Longer description on the GoFundMe page)Many of the posts from today are taken from the reel on the @smittenkitten Instagram page. They have been actively posting and collecting donations as well as working with other businesses in their area to support those in need.

Support South MPLS Restaurant Workers -
Feb 6 - $518 short of goal.Hello friends, family, and neighbors! I'm raising funds to directly support a group of restaurant workers in South Minneapolis affected by the ongoing occupation of the MSP metro area. The people I'm fundraising for are personal friends of mine from my time living and working in the Twin Cities--they are hard-working community members who have contributed so much to South Minneapolis.Beyond that, they have been generous and kind co-workers, friends, and mentors to me and become like second family. I want to show them the same love and care that they have shown me and help them remain safe, stably housed, and fed during this difficult time.Your contributions will go directly to aiding our beloved neighbors in the form of (a) groceries and (b) rent relief. Many of the posts from today are taken from the reel on the @smittenkitten Instagram page. Support for Isabel's Family During ICE Detention -
Feb 6 - $5400 short of goal.Yessenia and Armando are a wonderful couple who have been working tirelessly to build a life for their family since arriving from Venezuela two years ago. While doing grocery delivery to make ends meet and pay for their immigration lawyer, they were unexpectedly picked up by ICE. Their sudden detention has left their young daughter, Isabel, in the care of friends and community members, including myself. Despite the uncertainty, Isabel continues to keep a smile on her face, showing incredible strength and resilience. Our community has come together to support Isabel, and we have already received some donations and help from friends, including someone stepping in to draw up Power of Attorney papers. However, there are still many urgent needs to cover—car payments, rent, the phone plan, legal fees, and other bills that Yessenia and Armando can no longer manage while in custody.Every dollar raised will go directly toward keeping Isabel safe, cared for, and connected with her parents, as well as helping Yessenia and Armando with their legal fight. Many of the posts from today are taken from the reel on the @smittenkitten Instagram page.
